The Program

LESSONS

Individual lessons: 30 minutes, once a week. Parents are required to attend the lesson with the child and take notes during the lesson.

Notes Taking: Parents should bring a note-book and a pen to take down what the teacher does in the lesson so that the same steps can be repeated in the home practice.

Group Lesson: One hour, once a month. This is a class to learn music theory and practice ear-training using exercises created based on the Dalcroze medthod. Students of the same age group will be put together to form a class. Each student will also have the chance to practice performing in front of an audience. It is an excellent opportunity for students to learn with their peers and to share music.

AT HOME

Practice: We often tell the students: "Everyday you eat, you practice. On the day that you don't eat, you don't have to practice."

The teacher will guild parents on how to practice at home. Parents are encouraged to communicate often with the teacher about the progress of the student's learning. Teacher, parent, student form a team embarking on a music-learning journey.

Music Listening: It is the parents' responsibility to put on the Suzuki repetoir music at home. There are many opportunities to listen to the music: in the car, getting-up in the morning, going to bed at night, or any quiet play-time.

PERFORMANCE

Recitals: 2 to 3 times a year. Students are encouraged to perform as much as possible in general. These performances are obligatory. Parents should arrange to attend these recitals with their child and encourage their child to participate.

CONTINUE LEARNING

Attending concerts: Families should make an effort to attend local concerts of all different kinds of music thoughout the year. Exposure to live performances of piano or other instruments; of classical music or other genere is a great music education you can give to your child.

"First for the love of the child,
Next, for the love of teaching the child.
Next for the love of the music taught to the child.
But always, the child comes first."

Dr. Shinichi Suzuki
